Sayuri Complex sits on Bamrungrat Soi 2 in Wat Ket, the quieter riverside side of Chiang Mai — east of the Ping, away from the old-city tourist crush. At dusk the façade wakes up: a classical pediment rimmed in pink neon, cyan columns, and a pair of white statues standing guard on either side of a dark, curtained doorway.
