Privacy Notice

Last updated June 2026. We take your privacy seriously. This notice explains what information LanternPass collects, how we use it, and the choices available to you.

1.Who we are

LanternPass (“LanternPass”, “we”, “us”, “our”) operates this website and the related directory services. We act as the data controller for personal information we collect about visitors, registered users, and self-listers. Contact details are in Section 12.

2.What we collect

We collect personal information in three ways:

a) Information you give us. When you create an account or submit a self-listing, we collect what you enter (for example, email, display name, optional password, listing photos, descriptions, contact handles, measurements, service areas). Self-listers may also provide age-verification or identification documents during moderation review.

b) Information we collect automatically. When you use the Service we automatically collect technical information about your device and visit. This includes IP address, approximate geolocation (derived from IP via our content-delivery provider), browser type and version, device type, operating system, referring URL, pages viewed, and the date/time of access. We use cookies and similar technologies for this (see Section 8).

c) Information from third parties. If you pay for an optional feature, our payment processor will share with us limited transaction information (e.g. authorisation result, last four digits of the card, country of issuance). We do not receive or store full card numbers. If you sign in via a third-party identity provider, we receive the basic profile information you authorise.

3.What we don't collect

We do not collect, store, or have access to your full payment card details, your messages with providers, your physical location beyond IP-level approximation, your contact list, your camera roll, or any sensitive information that you have not chosen to provide. The directory is a hand-off product: once you click through to a provider’s own contact channel, anything that follows is outside our systems.

4.How we use your information

We use personal information only for the purposes set out below:

  • To operate and personalise the Service \u2014 showing nearby results, remembering your saved listings, and powering search.
  • To moderate, verify, and publish self-listings, and to communicate with you about the status of your submission.
  • To authenticate accounts, keep them secure, and prevent fraud or abuse.
  • To process optional paid features.
  • To comply with legal obligations and to respond to lawful requests by public authorities.
  • To send transactional emails about your account or listing. We do not send unsolicited marketing.
  • To analyse aggregate usage trends so we can improve the Service. Analytics data is kept in aggregate and does not identify individuals.

5.Legal bases (for EEA / UK visitors)

Where the EU/UK GDPR applies, our legal bases for processing are: (a) performance of our agreement with you (operating your account and listing), (b) our legitimate interests in running, securing, and improving the directory, (c) compliance with legal obligations, and (d) your consent (where we explicitly ask for it, for example for non-essential cookies). You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.

6.Sharing and disclosure

We share personal information only as described below:

  • Public directory content. Approved self-listings are published as part of the directory. Only the information you submit for a listing is public; your account email and login details are not.
  • Service providers. We use trusted vendors for hosting, content delivery, image storage, email delivery, error logging, and payment processing. They access personal information only to perform their function and are bound by confidentiality.
  • Legal and safety. We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government request, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of LanternPass, our users, or the public, including to prevent fraud, harassment, or human trafficking.
  • Corporate transactions. If LanternPass is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction; we will notify you and any new controller will be bound by terms no less protective than this notice.

We never sell personal information. We never share what you searched for, who you contacted, or which listings you saved with any third party for advertising or monetisation.

7.How long we keep your information

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this notice or as required by law. Account data is retained while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward to handle disputes or regulatory requests. Self-listing data is retained while published and for a short period after removal so we can honour re-publication or restoration requests. Aggregate, anonymised analytics may be kept indefinitely.

8.Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small number of cookies and similar tracking technologies. We group them as follows:

  • Strictly necessary. Required for the site to function \u2014 for example to keep you signed in, remember your age-gate acknowledgement, and protect against abuse. These cannot be turned off.
  • Preferences. Remember the city, filters, and presentation choices you select.
  • Analytics. Help us understand how the directory is used in aggregate. We use privacy-respecting analytics only.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking all cookies may break sign-in and saved preferences.

9.International transfers

LanternPass operates globally. Personal information may be processed in countries other than the one in which you reside, including countries that may not provide the same level of data-protection as your home jurisdiction. Where required, we put appropriate safeguards in place (such as standard contractual clauses) before transferring personal information internationally.

10.Security

We apply industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These include encryption in transit, encryption at rest for sensitive fields, strict access controls, and regular security review. No internet-based service can be guaranteed entirely secure; please use a unique password and notify us immediately if you suspect your account has been compromised.

11.Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Delete your account, your listing, and associated personal information.
  • Restrict or object to certain processing, including any direct marketing.
  • Receive a portable copy of the information you have provided.
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 12. We may ask for reasonable verification before acting on a request, particularly where it concerns deletion of a published listing.

12.Contact us

For privacy questions, requests, or complaints, write to privacy@lanternpass.com. We aim to respond within 30 days of a verified request.

13.Changes to this notice

We may update this notice from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect the most recent revision. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
