Babylon Gentleman Club はナクルアの通りにあり、スクーターが縁石に鼻先を寄せ、昼の光は昨夜のナイトライフの二日酔いのように残っている。黒い日よけが、金のロゴを押した暗いガラス扉に影を落とし、吊り下げのポール看板にはただ Babylon Gentleman’s Club とある。ネオンの騒ぎはなく、正しい扉に着いたという静かな約束だけだ。 隣には姉妹店のような正面と青縞の屋台があり、この一角を飾らないままにしている。ここは磨かれたモールの通路ではなく、現に動いているパタヤだ。ナクルアはウォーキングストリートよりゆっくりした混ざり方を呼ぶ。長期滞在の外国人、タイ人の常連、日が落ちたあとの北端の静かな脈を好む訪問者。 中は、インコールの夜にふさわしい古典的な紳士クラブの空気。薄明かり、個室、自分がなぜ来たかをすでに知っている前提の、急がないテンポ。スクーターがまばらになり、この通りが夜のリズムに落ち着いたときに来ること。Babylon はその時間のために作られている。
